Title: Retired Media Executive

Company: Penton Media, Inc.

Thomas Webb Duncan, Retired Media Executive, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Business.

Media was a natural fit for Mr. Duncan, who started out as a copy editor with the Poughkeepsie Journal back in 1968. Though he has led a series of successful media ventures, he is most proud of being made a partner of FM Business Publication in 1989, inclusive of the roles of vice president and editor-in-chief. Mr. Duncan would like to be remembered by his peers as someone who was as loyal to him as they were to him.

Born to J. Webb Duncan and Hazel Mary Duncan in Rhinebeck, New York, Mr. Duncan studied with Wake Forest University to earn a BA in English in 1968. He became a copy editor and reporter with the Poughkeepsie Journal, and went on to work with Duchess Suburban Newspapers as a managing editor in Hyde Park before becoming editor-in-chief of Taconic Press in Millbrook, New York. He joined one of the three largest educational publishers in America, McGraw-Hill, in 1976 as an associate editor, and traveled to San Francisco to ultimately rise to senior editor of the company. He returned in 1989 with other McGraw-Hill executives to launch FM Business Publications.

Mr. Duncan left FM in 1992 to join Intertec Publishing Corp., and was a group publisher with Primedia-Prism in Connecticut from 1998 to 2007. Before retiring in 2014, Mr. Duncan served as vice president of Penton Media in Stamford, Connecticut. Originally a legacy publisher of trade and industry press, the firm has branched out to digital media and events. Mr. Duncan attributes his many successes to relationships built in the industry and with clients, and to his humility. He was selected for the pages of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who in the World.
